David Gold, co-manager of Arbroath, has partnered with Ross Gray to launch their Gold and Gray Soccer Academy in the north-east, targeting young footballers in Aberdeen and the surrounding areas. The duo, both former professional players with stints at Livingston, Dunfermline, and Berwick Rangers, have taken over the Playit Loveit Academy, building on its existing success. Gold, 33, emphasized their 10-year focus on creating a coaching environment that challenges and entertains players of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced talents. The academy’s programs include group and one-to-one coaching, camps, and school partnerships, aiming to integrate football with academic and social development. Gold highlighted the importance of personalized coaching, noting that players are grouped based on individual needs rather than age, ensuring each child finds the right challenge and enjoyment. The initiative also includes school programs in Edinburgh, which Gold plans to expand to Aberdeen’s primary and secondary schools, using football as a tool to engage disengaged youth. Gold and Gray’s collaboration, rooted in their shared history at Portobello High School and Hibs Academy, reflects a commitment to nurturing talent and community relationships.
