Ross County Injury Update: Lennon Hopes for Triple Boost
Ross County manager Neil Lennon is hopeful of having a triple injury boost heading into Saturday's Premier Sports Cup tie with Ross County.
The Dunfermline manager was without three key players - Aston Oxborough, Kian Corbally, and Zak Rudden - for their Championship match with Ayr United. Musa Dibaga replaced Oxborough, who Lennon said in the build-up had picked up a thigh problem, at St Mirren in the cup last month, whilst Corbally and Rudden were also missing.
The trio had all started in the league opener at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, but midfielder Corbally picked up a knock in training, on Friday, whilst forward Rudden took a "bang on the hip". Lennon is keeping his fingers crossed they could all soon be back in action, though, commenting: "I'm hoping Ox will be fit. Kian pulled up on Friday with a hip problem, so I'm hoping that's not going to be too long. Zak should be fit for training this week."
News of possible returns for Oxborough, Corbally, and Rudden come after it was revealed Nurudeen Abdulai, who hasn't featured since injuring his shoulder in pre-season, has returned to training. New signing, Allan Oyirwoth, could also come into contention for the last 16 tie with Ross County. The 19-year-old was announced as a Pars player, on loan from MLS (Major League Soccer) side, New England Revolution, on Friday. He wasn't involved against Ayr, but Olamilekan Adams, whose arrival was also revealed on the same day, came off the bench for his debut.
"He (Oyirwoth) had two days travelling from America, so we'll get him in," Lennon continued. "He hadn't done any training with us, but he'll be fit because he's played games. We'll have a look at him this week."
Lennon, meanwhile, has also provided a fitness update on Connor Young. The 22-year-old was the first player recruited by the Pars after James Bord and Evan Sofer completed their takeover last January. However, in just his eighth appearance - and in Lennon's first game in charge - he was stretchered off with an ankle injury. Young was out for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign before, last season, he went on loan to East Kilbride, scoring 15 goals in 31 games across competitions, helping them win League Two. He hasn't featured so far this season and Lennon added: "Connor Young had a scan. He's got a bit of a stomach problem, so we're trying to get to the bottom of it, if it's a hernia or not. He's picked up a few injuries, a glute and a thigh, so he's not really got his pre-season or his season going yet. So, he's being assessed over the next week as well."
Ross County's next fixture is against Peterhead at home on November 7, 2026.
